In February, 2010, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office achieved re-certification in the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification program. Certification is a progressive and time-proven way of helping law enforcement agencies calculate and improve their overall performances.
Participating agencies conduct a thorough self-analysis to determine how existing operations can be adapted to meet objectives contained in specific standards. When the procedures are in place, a team of trained assessors verifies that applicable standards have been successfully implemented. The process culminates with a decision by a joint executive committee that the agency has met the requirements for certification.
Certification status represents a significant professional achievement. Certification acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and operationally effective.
The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office was first certified in 2001, then re-certified in 2006. With this successful assessment, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office has fully demonstrated its commitment to law enforcement excellence by meeting all applicable standards as established in the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.
The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for all RCSO training, hiring, background investigations and internal investigations. Staff in this section oversaw more than 24,800 hour of training for over 270 of RCSO’s personnel in 2010.
The RCSO has an on-site firing range which was utilized on a limited basis in 2010 and will be fully operational in 2011.
